Tropical Depression Forms off North Carolina Coast Likely to Become Tropical Storm

Tropical Depression Eight formed off the North Carolina coast this morning and will likely become a Tropical Storm by Tuesday.  The storm could skirt the coast of North Carolina Tuesday and into Wednesday.  The storm will likely be a weak Tropical Storm at the time, but North Carolina can expect some heavy downpours, as well as some windy conditions and some rip currents.  The storm currently has winds of 35 mph and will likely only reach maximum wind speeds of 40-45 mph.  This system could bring as much as 3 inches of rain to parts of the North Carolina Coast.  Some of the outer banks could experience winds gusts of 30-40 mph on Tuesday and Wednesday though the center of circulation will likely remain offshore.  This storm if named will become the eighth named storm of the 2016 season and will be Hermine.  We will continually monitor this system over the coming days and provide continuous coverage and updates.
