So with so much sharing and conflict surrounding articles that float around social media we wanted to set the record straight on how we structure our weather forecasting, whether it’s tornadoes, hurricanes or winter storms. When we look at a system, no matter the season or a system we often look at many models that you may hear your local TV meteorologist talk about. That’s the GFS, Euro, NAM, HRRR, WRF and many ensemble models depending on the type of system as well as SREF Plumes, which basically pull the mean values from various models. When we put a forecast together we base them on these and other factors. We simply state the facts. We want you to be prepared for a system, because we believe that’s the way that lives are saved. Lead times are key in forecasting and that is exactly what we intend to do. We would rather give you all the information and facts rather than being caught off guard in a dangerous situation. We have built a massive following and are expected to serve over 10 million people in 2016 alone. We have built over 50 applications to help save lives and make people aware of weather in general and especially severe weather situations. The reason this site and technology was developed was really to save lives and inform people. What started out as a single map has now turned into over 30 maps, 50 mobile applications, 250,000 downloads and 3 million viewers since 2011. Speaking of 2011 that year has significance as to why we set out of this journey over 5 years ago. We started the site after the tornado outbreak in April of that year, which claimed 12 lives in the small county, which I grew up in, so we know first hand how important it is to have the technology and lead time that is needed with severe weather events. We want to thank everyone who has supported our site throughout this journey. We couldn’t have grown to what we are without you guys, afterall we built this for you. That’s why every piece of technology and all of our applications are free to the public. We built this for you and we look forward to serving you for many years to come.
