Tropical Storm Watch Issued For North Carolina’s Coastal Region

Tropical Depression Eight is still a few hundred miles off the North Carolina coast this morning, but is slowly expected to move to the northwest over the next few days.  The storm is expected to strengthen slightly and will likely have winds near 40-50 mph.  This system is expected to become a Tropical Storm by Tuesday morning and has prompted Tropical Storm Watches along the North Carolina coast.  This storm is expected to skirt the coast of North Carolina Tuesday and Wednesday and could bring Tropical Storm conditions to some of the state’s coastal region.  The seas will likely be between 7 to 13 feet over the coming days, which has also prompted marine warnings and small craft advisories for the region.  This system could bring as much as 3 inches of rain to the area though the heavy rainfall will likely remain off shore.  We also believe as of now that the tropical storm force winds will remain off shore though the outer banks region can expect some wind gusts of 30-40 mph.  We will continually monitor this system over the coming days and continually provide updates.
