Tropical Storm Gaston has officially formed in the Atlantic Ocean as of this morning and will likely be a hurricane by this evening. Also in the Atlantic is Tropical Depression Fiona and invest 99L. Below is our current forecast and synopsis and what you can expect from each of these systems.
Tropical Storm Gaston
Tropical Storm Gaston currently has max winds of near 65 mph and has been rapidly strengthening and this trend is expected to continue bringing Gaston to at least a category 1 or 2 hurricane over the next few days. The good news with Gaston is that it will not likely be a threat to the U.S. All of the current models are showing Gaston being pushed out into the Atlantic. We will continue to provide updates and monitor this storm over the next few days.
Tropical Depression Fiona
Fiona is still clinging to life, but isn’t expected to gain any strength and will likely dwindle down to nothing before being swept into the northern Atlantic. This system will not likely have any impacts on the U.S. and we will continually monitor this system and provide updates if needed.
Invest 99L
99L is an interesting system. The models have been flip flopping on this system for the past few days. Some of the models are developing this system into a tropical storm while other continue just to push this west bringing some showers to the southeastern US. We will monitor this over the coming days and provide updates as available. This could possibly be a long term threat, though we don’t see this as being a major threat to the U.S.
