Tropical Storm Erika has been struggling to gain strength over the past couple of days, but is still expected to become a Hurricane by Monday and if it’s track doesn’t change between now and then it is headed for the eastern Florida coast. Though the track is still 5 days out and is subject to change with the ever changing tropical Atlantic conditions but all the models at least show some type of impact the the eastern Florida coast around Monday. When the hurricane hunters flew into the storm yesterday they found a slightly unorganized storm system with Erika though by the weekend that should all change. Currently Erika is at around 40 mph winds and most models show Erika making it to at least category one or two status during its lifetime. Erika could likely bring 4-8″ of rain with it. We will provide another update this afternoon with the newest model runs. We should definitely have a better idea of what Erika will do tomorrow morning with the 8 a.m. update.
