Hurricane season is still a few days away, but the tropics are already trying to get an early start this year. We have already had one named storm earlier this year in January and a cluster of thunderstorms off the Southeastern US is trying to get more organized. The NHC is giving this area a 50% chance of development over the course of the next 5 days, which is a medium chance. Even if this system does develop into anything it would be very weak and would not pose any major risks to the US. Based on the current models we believe that this has a 30-50% chance of developing into a tropical depression, a 10-20% chance that this will develop into a tropical storm and a 0% chance that this could form into a Hurricane. The timing of this system will likely be Sunday into Monday for the Southeastern US. The only real threats will likely be rip currents for the beaches this weekend. Other than that you can likely expect some rain and breezy conditions for the coastal areas throughout the weekend.
