Tropical Depression Seven formed in the Atlantic Ocean today along with Tropical Depression Fiona and another area with a 50% chance of development. We are currently watching all three areas closely, as we are currently in the peak of the 2016 hurricane season. Below is our outlook and forecast on all three areas.
Tropical Depression Seven
This is the newly formed depression a few hundred miles off the coast of Africa. This storm became a tropical depression today and will likely be a tropical storm by tomorrow. This system once named will be Gaston and the seventh named storm of the 2016 season. This storm will likely rapidly intensify and become a hurricane by Wednesday. It’s unlikely that this system will make landfall in the U.S. based on a number of reliable models predicting this system to be pushed into the far northern Atlantic. We will continually monitor this system over the coming days and provide updates as needed.
Tropical Depression Fiona
Fiona is now a tropical depression and will likely stay that way as strengthening is not in the forecast for this system. Fiona will likely eventually be torn apart and pushed into the northern Atlantic. We will only provide updates for this system if there is a drastic change in the forecast.
99L (50% chance of development)
This system is in the southern Atlantic and has mixed forecasts when looking at the model data. Some models are strengthening this system into a tropical storm by the weekend, while others are hardly showing anything on the map. This will be a system to watch over the coming days to see how it progresses as it pushes west. This system if it develops could possibly pose a threat to the U.S. We will continually monitor this system over the coming days and provide updates as needed.
