Tornadoes moved through Texas Oklahoma and Arkansas yesterday afternoon into last night killing two people and leaving as many as ten people missing. In the small town of Van, Texas around 30% of the community was destroyed. Many of the tornadoes yesterday were rain wrapped and hard to track and people likely wouldn’t know they were in a tornado until it was upon them. The NWS placed multiple tornado warnings out yesterday afternoon and well into the night. The SPC had issued tornado outlooks early in the day warning people of the possible situation. The best place to be during a tornado is in a storm shelter below ground if possible. If this is not possible get to the lowest most center portion of your house. If you are out in a vehicle do not stop under an overpass. Wind velocities are accelerated in these areas making them a dangerous place to be during a storm. The best place to be is in a ditch or low lying area if you cannot take cover in a house or structure. The chance for tornadoes continues today into Indiana, Ohio and Illinois though the chances are less likely with a 5% chance of a tornado in these areas every 25 miles.
