America’s first offshore wind farm is now in final stages of construction just off the coast of Rhode Island. This project by Deepwater Wind will consist of 5 wind turbines rising 600 feet out of the Atlantic Ocean. This farm will supply most of the energy to Block Island and will cut energy costs to the island by up to 40% according to the Deepwater Wind website. The project will employ up to 300 people locally to Rhode Island and will likely mark the first of many similar wind farms off the coast. Wind farms are known for reducing emissions by reliving other energy methods.
