Saturday’s severe weather setup was an enhanced risk for severe weather with the main focus being on strong winds, severe thunderstorms and some damaging hail with a 2% risk of tornadoes in North Carolina. Severe WX Warn storm chasers Corey Hoggard and Bethany Daniels left late Saturday afternoon with an eye on the storm moving toward Sanford, NC. As we approached the storm it was clear on radar that this storm was going to produce more than wind and hail. The velocities started to ramp up and as we approached the storm it was very evident that the entire storm was beginning to rotate. We continued to follow the storm and and follow the funnel cloud that we had watched form earlier. The tornado ended up producing damage and dropping to the ground about a half mile northwest of our position near Cumnock Road. We then continued down the road to find a clearing from the trees and vegetation. At this point we stopped because the storm seemed to be weakening and as we left our camera running we captured the tornado roping out and going back up into the clouds. I have provided below the video as well as some of our photos from that day. Continue to visit us at www.severewxwarn.com and like us on Facebook and Youtube.
