Lightning Strike Kills 5 Year Old in NC OBX

A 5 year old boy was killed by a lightning strike in the Outer Banks of North Carolina over the weekend. The death occurred Sunday around 4 p.m. in Currituck County. Reports show that the family vacationing in the area were packing to leave when the child was struck by lightning.

Lightning accounts for around 50 deaths per year in the United States. It’s important to know that if you can see or hear lightning then your can be struck. The best place to be in a thunderstorm is in a building or a vehicle. Be sure to wait at least 30 minutes after you last see or hear lightning to return outside. Anytime you plan to be outdoors be sure to check the forecast and have a plan in case you are caught in a thunderstorm.

Our prayers go out to the boy and the affected family.
