Hurricane Earl has now formed in the Caribbean Sea with maximum winds of 75 mph and is expected to make landfall around 1 a.m. Thursday near Belize City. At the time of landfall Earl is expected to be a category 1 hurricane with winds between 75-85 mph. The strongest winds associated with Earl are on the northeastern side of the storm. Areas in the path of the storm can expect strong winds, heavy downpours and storm surge. Rainfall totals will likely be in the 5-10 inch range with this system for some areas in the direct path of the storm. Wave heights associated with this system are in the range of 13-16 feet. We will provide updates as needed, but as of now Earl will not pose a threat to the United States.
