Hurricane Awareness Week – Get Prepared Now!

Hurricane season is officially only a few weeks away and this week is “Hurricane Awareness Week” for many states that are often affected by hurricanes. We have compiled a list of things that your should do now to be prepared in the event that a hurricane hits your location.  The first thing that you should do is get an evacuation route in place.  Know how you will get out of town in the event of an evacuation(click here to see our interactive map showing the best evacuation route).  The next thing you will need to know is what types of risks your home is susceptible to. This could include wind damage, flooding or other factors.  You will need to plan accordingly, so that you will have the necessary items to cover windows or place sandbags for flooding.  One of the most important things to do is to know how to get in touch with your family or have a meeting spot if you are affected by a severe weather event.  This will be good to know not only for hurricanes, but for any type of disaster.  Always let someone know where you will be during severe weather and let them know if you decide to leave.  If something were to happen to you this will allow help to get to you much quicker.
