There are currently two areas of interest in the Atlantic Ocean with the potential to develop into tropical systems. The first system, which is the closest to the United States is tropical low 97L. This system have been given a 30% chance of developing into a tropical system over the next 5 days. The other system, which is just off the African coastline is tropical low 96L and has been given a 50% chance of developing into a tropical system within the next 5 days.
97L – 30% chance of development over the next 5 days.
Invest 97L is very disorganized at this point in time and is nothing more than heavy thunderstorms over the Atlantic. The models are not currently developing this system into anything more than a tropical depression or a weak tropical storm. It is also way to early to determine if this system will affect the U.S., but we will continually provide updates on this system, as the chances for development over the coming days will likely increase.
96L – 50% chance of development over the next 5 days.
Invest 96L is beginning to look a little more organized and is showing some signs of deep thunderstorm activity. This system is moving quite a bit slower than 97L, but looks more promising for tropical development over the coming days. None of the models are currently developing this into a hurricane though this could change, because the water temps are slightly above average and the wind shear will be at a minimum for the next few days. It is way to far out to determine if this system will affect the U.S.
We will continue to monitor both of these systems over the coming days and will continually provide updates. If you would like to stay up to date on these systems and future systems be sure to like us on Facebook and download the Atlantic Hurricane Tracker on Android and Apple devices.
